Fascial Manipulation©

What is "Fascial Manipulation©"?

Fascial manipulation, portland chiropracticFascial Manipulation© is an evolutionary technique created and refined by by Luigi Stecco and others in the Fascial Manipulation Association© for the last 38 years. In the last century, there have been many fascial techniques created and performed by massage therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists, naturopaths and osteopaths. They all consider the neuromyofascial system; that is, the system of coordination between the muscles, nerves and fascial that is continuous from head to toe and inside out. All myofascial techniques treat the continuous nature of this system; Luigi Stecco, his two children who are now medical doctors and the other therapists and doctors involved in the Fascial Manipulation group have discovered specific points in this system that produce superior results if released. These points, called centers of coordination or centers of fusion, are the most likely points for the various layers of fascia to become stuck to one another, producing densification and a lack of gliding and sliding of these layers. It is this gliding and sliding of the fascia that allows for continuous movement and balanced tension through our entire body.

Developed in Italy, Fascial Manipulation© has been spreading throughout Europe for the past 15 years and taught in various languages. In 2011, the Fascial Manipulation Association©, brought this technique to Atlanta, Georgia and Eugene, Oregon. I have been a big fan of Stecco's work and jumped at the opportunity to take these courses and become one of the first 10 doctors in the US to be certified in Fascial Manipulation©. The technique combines active, passive and resisted movement as well as palpation to figure out which points are the cause of your myofascial problems. In addition, a thorough "fascial history" is taken to figure out instances in your past that have created an imbalance of your neuromyofascial system.

For more information on this technique, or, to schedule an appointment, please call, email or use the contact form in the green sidebar to the right.
