Owner, Optimum Function LLC, Portland, Oregon, 97214
Hello, I'm Dr. Tim Irving, chiropractor, massage therapist and nutritionist. I graduated fromThe University of Western States Chiropractic (UWS)with honors. While at UWS I took the opportunity to dive deeper into the available knowledge base; and wrote a thesis on the relationship between pain and muscle activity that sparked many intellectual discussions amongst my classmates and future colleagues. I accepted an additional internship in my last quarter at UWS in OHSU's Integrative Medicine clinic where I had the opportunity to examine and advise patients along side naturopaths, medical doctors and acupuncturists.
Right before graduation, I helped UWS develop and implement their massage therapy training program. Since graduation, I have committed myself to both clinical practice and teaching; embodying the "doctor as teacher" aspect of my training. In addition to a successful clinical practice, I teach and taught Physiology, Soft Tissue, Physical Diagnosis and other various clinical, adjusting and clinical skills classes in UWS's chiropractic program and currently teach these topics and more atNational College of Natural Medicine (NCNM), in their physical and basic sciences departments. In addition, I have taught classes for The Graston Technique as well as teaching a Graston Technique workshop to the chiropractic students at UWS and doctors, physical therapists and occupational therapists.
I have extensive training and experience in trigger point dry needling, Fascial Manipulation, nutrition, chiropractic and therapeutic massage therapy and am actively pursuing new ways to become a leading force in the evolution of chiropractic and healthcare. Health and wellness through physical, nutritional and dietary treatments is such a passion of mine that I went on to a Master's in Human Nutrition program in 2007 at the University of Bridgeport and finished a 5 month training program in functional medicine in 2008. in 2011, theOregon Board of Chiropractic Examiners (OBCE) ruled in favor of chiropractors practicing dry needling. Having had experience with this technique in Colorado and a keen interest in bringing this technique into my clinic, I have been properly trained and approved by the board to use it to treat myofascial trigger points, tender points and adhesions.
